Edmonton Wedding Venue Review: The Old Timers Cabin

When it comes to wedding venues in Edmonton, there are plenty of hidden gems. How many times have you driven down Scona Road and right past the Old Timers Cabin, without even knowing it's there. Or maybe you noticed the charming log cabin, but had no idea it could be used as a wedding venue. Well, it certainly can, and it's a great venue, at that!

I love working at the Old Timer's Cabin for a few reasons. It has a cozy feel, but is actually a pretty large venue - it seats up to 250 people. As a DJ, of course I'm always paying attention to parking and accessibility, since it makes my job so much easier when these factors are hassle-free - and the Old Timers Cabin excels on both fronts. There is a large (free!) parking lot with ample space for everyone, and there is both a wheelchair lift and a ramp entrance for those who need it.

I've seen this venue dressed up and down for all different types of wedding. The exposed-beam rafters are perfect for hanging decor items like bunting (above), paper lanterns, or mini-lights. The wooden interior with its large fireplace fits a variety of different decor efforts perfectly, such as rustic, country, or vintage styles.

The Old Timers Cabin has a perfect, central location on the south edge of the Edmonton river valley - not far from downtown or Whyte Ave - and has a stunning panoramic view of the Edmonton skyline. We particularly like the large hardwood dance floor and the spacious outdoor deck that guests can retreat to for some fresh air.

Built in 1959, this venue is managed by the Northern Alberta Pioneers Association, and was named a Municipal Historic Resource in 2011. Check out their website here to enquire about availability.
