5 Ways to Make Wedding History With A Flash Mob

I love wedding surprises. When a bride and groom or the bridal party gives me music for a flash mob or surprise dance, I know it is going to be a memorable evening. My personal favourites from Edmonton weddings include the bride who surprised her husband with the exact dance from Napoleon Dynamite's talent show scene, the dancer groomsmen who had the entire crowd on their feet cheering while they breakdanced, and the bridal party that got everyone moving with a choreographed Indian dance routine.

Flash mobs are guaranteed to get your guests smiling, and to get people in 'party mode'. To make your surprise run smoothly, make sure all of your wedding professionals are in on the secret - ensure your wedding DJ has the music ahead of time, and let your photographer and videographer know what is about to happen so they can place themselves to capture it well.

Here are five ways that flash mobs can make your Edmonton wedding go down in history...

Get your dance floor started...

The majority of couples still choose to have at least one slow song at the start of their dance - whether it is the bride and groom's first dance, a father daughter dance or a dance with the entire bridal party. When it comes to making a transition between the slow songs and the more upbeat dance music, a flash mob is perfect way to show your guests that now is the time to party! It works especially well when, like the couple above, you incorporate the bridal party, and use them to encourage people to join you on the dance floor.

Get people in 'celebration' mode...

While a wedding ceremony is a romantic yet serious occasion, it is also reason to celebrate. I absolutely love how this couple broke out of their formal church wedding atmosphere to show that the party was starting - and the vicar led the way!

Show off your personalities and interests...

A wedding is a perfect time to share the things that make you who you are - for example, if you're musical lovers, organizing a flash mob of your favourite show tune is a great way to let your personality shine through.

Surprise your new spouse...

This groom and his groomsmen went over the top to create a flash mob that took his new bride by surprise. After spending months planning every detail, and scheduling every moment of the reception, i can guarantee that this came as a shock to the bride - but the look on her face makes it clear that she loved every minute of it.

Surprise BOTH the bride and groom...

The sisters of the bride organized this flash mob by choreographing a dance, then sending a video to friends and family all over the map who would learn the dance, then come together to surprise the couple during the reception. What an awesome gift to give the newlyweds - and clearly someone had the foresight to let the videographers know that this was about to happen - this was captured and edited so well!
